Societal Expectations

Society’s view of the postpartum experience is completely unrealistic. These expectations are only heightened with the “super mom” content on social media and popular culture today. These supermoms are always glowing with happiness, are organized, unstressed and unphased by these lifestyle changes, all while looking polished and feminine. This glamorization of pregnancy and postpartum leaves mothers feeling inadequate because they can’t live up to this impossible standard of motherhood. In addition, motherhood brings a multitude of conflicting opinions, whether you decide to breastfeed or not, sleep with your baby or put them in a crib, you will inevitably be an “inadequate” mother in someone’s eyes.
